Crypto-holdings update

As some of you know I experimented a bit in cryptocurrency last year. Although I didn’t post anymore about it, I actually did some moves in this space so I thought that I’d give you all an update on this speculation.

Originally I bought Ripple coins (XRP) for the amount of €500,-. or 2641 coins at a price of €0,189. The idea at first was to hodl for the long term and see a steady rise in profit hopefully enough to pay for my mortgage 🙂

The reality was somewhat different though. After my initial purchase there indeed was a steady growth in the XRP price. As it grew I began to feel some pressure to sell it, so after a small rise I sold all my coins when the price hit €0,22. Realising a total profit of €81.08. NICE!

Since the price dropped again I decided to use my original €500,- and rebought XRP again at a price of €0.18500. The price dipped even further so I used my realised gains to buy additional XRP.

After it continued to rise in price I made some subsequent gains by selling batches of 100 coins at a time. After a few buys I decided it was time to branch out to other coins and to invest another €300,-.

Then the price of XRP rose to its peak above the $3:

Other coins continued to soar as well and eventually my investment of €800,- grew to a stellar €4165,29. Amazing unrealised gains & profits, it grew bigger then I dared hope when I first invested in this new technology.

Your probably wondering, dude did you sell at this high?!? Alas, my answer is no. In my infinite wisdom I decided that if it could grow to $3+, it could also go to $10 right?

Well apparantly so far the answer is no. After this great rally, all coins, including XRP made a nosedive and returned to lower values.

Long story short I now have a small portfolio consisting of Ripple (XRP), Stellar Lumens (XLM), Tron (TRX), EOS, and Electroneum (ETN).

The average value of this portfolio is between €1200 – €1600 euro although it crossed €2000 again three weeks ago and went down again after that. At the time of writing the value is €1264,73.

So far so good with a healthy €450,- profit in about 9 months time, but boy what a ride it has been and continues to be. It’s definitely not for the faint of heart, that’s for sure!

Got any experiences of your own? Please share in the comments!

  1. That’s pretty cool what you did, take profit when you can. Otherwise, it was only $800 lesson LOL 🙂

I’ve decided to stay out of it as I’m not a very good swing trader. 🙂 But I enjoy reading stories of people’s success.

    1. Hey Vivianne, I am by no means a trader. Although it is tempting do to some continous buying and selling because that is were the profit is made. 15% swings in a few days or sometimes within a day are not uncommon with the coins I have. Other coins might go 100-1000% in a matter of days.

      For now I’m just hodling.

  2. Mr. Robot, You are an adventurous guy. I read a comment by you on another blog that you had started a business earlier in your life. Now I find you are a crypto investor. What will it be next I wonder? Anyway, I am uneducated in this space and have avoided it. I guess I’m not much of a visionary. Tom

    1. Hahaha 🙂 I have been known to do various things at different stages of my life.

Maybe someday when I get asked for an interview you’ll find out if I have more tricks up my sleeve. 😉

Not much of a visionary you say? You’re way ahead of 99% of the people with your financial fortitude and foresight.

  3. I enjoyed reading your post about crypto. The surge in january / february was awesome, I regret not selling a significant part of my portfolio. I’m also “invested” in XRP and TRX and own some OXY. I am still confident about Ripple ;). I have traded multiple coins on Binance and Bit-Z and also made some “free money”, great feeling but also great risks. I have decided not to add extra money towards crypto and put more focus on long-term index investing.

    1. Thanks! Its always nice to see fellow crypto enthusiasts. I also have stopped importing new money. So I’m going to let it ride for the remainder of the year (or that’s the plan anyway!).

    1. That my intention as well. However I still almost daily check my coins. It’s something of a habit and it needs to stop since I plan not to do anything until end of the year.

But then again when I see a friend of mine trading a few times a week and generating a nice profit I sometimes get the urge to jump in again as well. I’m staying strong though! 🙂

  4. Oh dude! I see you had the same rollercoaster ride I had! With an equally, well, less than happy ending? 😉

I tried to program a bot for trading which I recently wrote about at Life’s Dividend!

I hope crypto will still see a rise this year, but I won’t hold my breath. Read the other day that this year or these months anyway, are like a strong winter to see which coins are fit to survive and which will perish…
